Stolen Motorbike found - Centurion

Submitted by: Jacqui

A WierdaPark resident was relieved on 6 March when his motorbike was found thanks to the help of Fidelity ADT Reaction Officer Jappy Skosana.

At approximately 03:30 Officer Skosana responded to a CPF call from Garsfontein CMC to assist Stallion Security at corner Basson & Rooihuiskraal road as three suspicious men were spotted in the area. When they saw the Fidelity ADT vehicle, the suspects ran away into the bush across the road and disappeared.

After searching the area for some time, Officer Skosana was patrolling in Wierda Park when he was stopped by a customer on Cotie Street, claiming that three suspects had been on his property.

On further investigation, it was discovered that the suspects had lifted the gate and gained access to his property and stolen a motor bike. Officer Skosana immediately started searching the area. While driving he spotted a bike matching the description, which was hidden away in a nearby bush.

Officer Skosana immediately alerted Garsfontein CMC, Wierda Park SAPS as well as the owner of the Motorbike was alerted to come to the scene to identify his missing bike.

“We have noticed a trend over the last couple of weeks where criminals are derailing gates or breaking pedestrian gates open with picks or crow bars to gain entry into properties, says Leon Muller District Manager Fidelity ADT.

Here are some useful tips for safeguarding your property against a home invasion:

  • Ensure that your gate motor is secured in a steel casing or bracket that is locked at all times. Suspects often just place their hands through the gate if your gate motor is unsecured and installed right next to a “palisade-type” gate”. They are then able to switch the gate to manual and access your property.
  • Install adequate anti-lift brackets and welding a piece of flat bar onto the gate rack to prevent thieves from bending the rack upwards.
  • Combine mechanical anti-theft systems, such as traditional theft-resistant cages, with electronic notification devices, for example sound bombs and GSM units which are able to send notifications to users when the device’s inputs are triggered.

Muller praised officer Skosana for his swift response to the incident and quick recovery of the stolen motorbike. “This once again highlights the importance of communities, security companies and SAPS working together. Everyone in the community can play a role in helping to prevent crime. A community working together is a safer, happier community,” concludes Muller
