All the Assegai Awards Winners in 2018

The Direct Marketing Association of Southern Africa’s Assegai Awards remain one of the highlights of the industry's calendar. Held at The POLO ROOM/Inanda Club on Thursday 8 November, the Assegai Awards celebrated all that is creative, smart and ultimately hits the mark of perfection. “The work these agencies and partners have produced over the past 12 months has been of an international standard” says CEO, David Dickens: “Congratulations to all the winners!” The following is a complete list of this year’s Awards winners.  All entries were individually scored by an expert panel of judges and the final scores were audited by an independent auditor.

Thank you for your time and expertise in offering invaluable insight and focus to each entry this year. The Assegai Committee and its’ head, Mr. Warren Moss send their heartfelt thanks.

This year the Assegai Awards received 208 entries across Section A – F containing 40 categories.50 judges with the expertise required to judge all work from the marketing sector, were selected by the DMASA.

This year Judging took place over three days to ensure that the awards continue to recognise the innovation and creativity of our local marketers.

The announcements are for those campaigns that made it into the top half of all campaigns received. The winners from these campaigns will be announced at our gala evening on Thursday 08 November 2018.

The Assegai Awards: Judges for 2018 have been selected

There is new excitement around the awards this year, as there have been changes to the website. The judging panel, for the 2018 Assegai Awards has been selected. These individuals have been carefully chosen by the DMASA and have the collective local and international expertise required to judge all work from the marketing sector.  Judging will be held over two days and over 50 judges will be involved. This will ensure consistency and balance while ensuring that no stone is left unturned by the judging panel. The first stage of judging is set to begin on Thursday, 27 September.

The second stage of the judging will take place on Friday, 5 October 2018. The depth and experience of the panel will ensure that the standards of the Assegai Awards remain a priority while allowing for work to be seriously assessed and appraised.

IAS repeats its sponsorship of the Agency Credentials award at the 2017 Assegai Awards

Following a successful launch of the “world’s first” Agency Credentials Award in 2016, the IAS will continue to sponsor the IAS Agency Credentials award category in this year’s Assegai Awards.

The aim of the award is to recognise an agency’s credentials set – written credentials document as well as “Talking Heads” agency show reel - within the various agency discipline types e.g. creative, digital, PR, media and design in South Africa.

According to Johanna McDowell, the CEO of IAS, “This award will not be judged by agency peer groups or journalists”. The panel of judges will be made up of marketers and intermediaries internationally.

“We are encouraging agencies across all disciplines to enter for this award as it will give them an opportunity to showcase their agency to a large number of leading marketers on the judging panel”, says McDowell. She adds that judges will be carefully looking in the entries for those nuggets of information which set one agency apart from the others.

Closing date for entries is midnight Wednesday 30 August.

The IAS Agency Credentials Award falls into Section F. A DMASA Assegai Award is a mark of victory in Direct Marketing excellence.

Johanna McDowell will also be a judge at this year’s awards acknowledging entries that deliver exceptional results.

Since their inception, the Assegai Awards have striven to benchmark the South African Direct Marketing industry, to highlight best-in-class examples and encourage all players in the industry to work towards achieving greatness in their campaigns. The goal remains to keep raising the bar for the whole industry.
