Sebenza Women Awards 2020 Appoints All Cast Female Hosts plus an Ambassador

The month of August is upon us again where we celebrate women and remember the heroines of 1965 who took it upon themselves to fight for their freedom. We also reflect on the unique contributions that women have sacrificed to make our lives better and shine the spotlight on the special roles that they continue to play today.

The Sebenza Awards founder, Mr Kini Shandu announced an all cast of female hosts for this year’s second occurrence, going against all odds to empower women. The hosts include celebrity Jacinta Ngobese who bagged the Women in Media Award last year, Sihle Makhanya, Zimiphi Zimdollar Biyela and Zibu Masotobe. This year’s awards will focus on empowering women, both young and old, and to establish ways to create recognition that can birth opportunities to improve, empower and make a girl child’s life easier.

Furthermore, Palesa Kwitshana, a Marketing Strategist and advocate for women empowerment has been appointed as the Ambassador and brand custodian of the awards. “Nothing gives me more pleasure than to see the celebration of women especially in a very patriarchal environment that we exist in. Women have always been the backbone of all the facets of our society, whether its at home, church and in business and seeing a platform that recognizes women in the forefront at the helm of industries is seriously heart-warming”, said Kwitshana in a statement.

Other contestants who have won before include Nomfundo Mcoyi, who received the Business Leader of the Year 2019 and Shauwn Mpisane who was awarded the Woman in Construction 2019.

The awards will be held on the 30th of October in Durban at the Gateway Hotel from 18H00 till late. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event was moved from August, women’s month to October in line with the law and governmental restrictions. All event proceedings will be held virtually, on radio and television as well as live on all the Sebenza Women Awards social media platforms.

“These awards provide other women and I, with the opportunity to be recognized and be appreciated for the contributions we make, more especially in male dominated workspaces and industries. I am honoured and overly excited to be part of something this big.”, says Zimdollar Zimiphi Biyela, a Sebenza Women Awards 2020 cast.

“Our aim is to create genuine opportunities to empower women. The main objective is to bridge the employment gap between men and women by exposing them to the business world, sponsors, investors, and other business-people from all walks of life, who can provide them with tangible opportunities,” Shandu added.

We encourage all those who did not make it to not lose hope but apply again. As we are getting closer and closer to the day, kindly follow all our social media platforms and stay up to date. Remember to tune in and watch the Sebenza Women Awards on the 30th of October”, Shandu concluded.
