Two Top Honours for hansgrohe: RainTunes and Aquno Select M81 Bring Home Gold

On February 7, 2020, hansgrohe garnered its second design award this year in Frankfurt am Main – and a double, at that. Following its “Best of the Best” distinction at the ICONIC AWARD 2020 in January, the hansgrohe RainTunes shower scenarios and the hansgrohe Aquno Select M81 kitchen faucet brought home gold at the German Design Awards. Further awards were also given out for the hansgrohe M54 kitchen tap, the hansgrohe Rainfinity shower family, the AXOR Showers product programme and the AXOR Edge washbasin mixer product programme.

An international panel of experts evaluated more than 5,000 product and project submissions with the goal of discovering, presenting, and honouring unique design trends. The RainTunes digital shower system, which was developed in collaboration with Phoenix Design, is fittingly one of just 71 products to be awarded gold by the panel. “The innovative RainTunes shower scenarios combine the temperature and intensity of the water spray with light, music, and fragrance to create an entirely new multisensory shower experience. A fascinating product that – together with the hansgrohe Home app – represents a milestone on the road to the digital bathroom,” said the panel.

The panel was also excited about hansgrohe’s exclusive innovation from the world of the kitchen: “The M81 kitchen faucet offers an innovative feature that makes washing and cleaning food even easier and – above all – gentler. Thanks to the countless tiny jets integrated into the broad base, the water comes out in a fanned-out stream – similar to a shower – which is particularly gentle on food. An extremely intriguing development that, together with the straight lines and clear design of the base, is also very visually appealing.”

“We are thrilled to have been honoured with two golds at one of the most renowned design competitions in the world. This confirms our innovative strength in the worlds of kitchen and bath, and also honours our design process,” beams Marc André Palm, Head of Global Brand Marketing for hansgrohe. “The whole team is especially proud, because – with Rainfinity – hansgrohe is setting new standards in the bathroom. They’re products for discerning lovers of wellness and design. And the Aquno Select M81 is an entirely new concept for an efficient water workflow in the kitchen – a kitchen faucet for ambitious gourmets for whom cooking is more than just simply preparing meals.”

hansgrohe RainTunes – the Digital Shower Experience

RainTunes offers a multisensory and inspiring shower experience. In collaboration with experts from a whole range of worlds, hansgrohe has developed the RainTunes scenarios: in conjunction with the hansgrohe Home app, the synchronization of temperature and intensity of the water and the ability to control light, fragrance, music, and other multimedia applications turn innovative digital possibilities in the bathroom into a reality. People and their individual moods and needs are the clear focus in this regard: the bathroom becomes their personalized room where they can feel their most comfortable.

hansgrohe Aquno Select M81 – Wellness for Fruits and Vegetables

The M81 kitchen mixer easily creates a forward-thinking workflow at the sink. In addition to the pull-out sprayer, the tablet with accented edging in the lower part of the faucet provides the best conditions for innovative water flows. The wide-area water spray consisting of individual microstreams is the definition of gentle spraying for sensitive food items, splash-free washing of large objects, and resource-friendly handwashing. In combination with the tailored multifunction strainer, culinary prep and cooking has never been so simple and – above all – so special.

About the German Design Awards

The German Design Award is the international premium award of the German Design Council whose goal is to discover, present, and honor unique design trends. To this end, top-quality submissions from the world of product and communications design are honored that, in their own way, play a pioneering role in the international field of design. The German Design Award, which made its debut in 2012, is among the most renowned design competitions in the world and is well respected beyond just professional circles. To adequately represent the diversity of our product and communications culture, the German Design Award is divided into segments: Excellent Product Design and Excellent Communications Design. These cover all the areas of daily life. “Gold,” “Winner,” and “Special Mention” awards are given out in each of the competition categories, with the panel selecting one Gold award winner per category. The Gold award represents top-notch performance in international design and is only bestowed upon the best of the best. In special cases, the panel can decide to name two Gold winners per category.
