Samsung’s Guide to Ensuring Winter Wellness

Submitted by: Debora Siyaya

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa, 19 July, 2015 – Winter in South Africa can be dry and harsh across many areas of the country, except for places such as Cape Town, which is known to experience cold and wet weather conditions.

The cold, dust, dry air and damp can all have a negative impact on general well-being, sometimes even exacerbating existing ailments. Air-conditioning solutions that are capable of regulating temperatures and filtering dirt particles and other pollutants can play an important role in keeping families healthy.

According to Michael McKechnie, Divisional Head of Digital Appliances, Samsung Electronics SA, using an air-conditioner during winter is more efficient than a traditional heater, as it circulates the air evenly throughout the room. “We have designed our range of air-conditioners to manage any seasonal changes – with innovation, style and technology. Our premium range features the advanced triangular design that has been created for utmost functionality; heat is distributed evenly around the room and over a wider area than conventionally shaped air-conditioners or heaters. This ensures a comfortable room temperature by selecting your choice on the remote.”

People with asthma can have problems with cold air as it can trigger bronchospasms1 while changes in temperature, air pressure and humidity can result in headaches, lack of concentration and fatigue2. People with arthritis are often plagued by flare-ups and aching joints when it is cold. This is particularly true of cold and wet weather3 which is linked with increased pain in stiff joints.

A well-regulated environment has the potential to mitigate the impact of harsh winter conditions and this is where a well-designed solution comes into play. The idea of using an air-conditioning unit in winter may seem counterintuitive. However, modern functionalities are designed to deliver both cool air in summer and bring warmth to the home in winter, providing year-round benefits for owners.

“The Samsung AR9500 Triangular air-conditioner which has the most cutting edge Inverter technology works at minimal electrical inputs, while maintaining a stable environmental temperature. It also has a Single User mode that uses less compressor capacity, which reduces power consumption while still providing a cool and comfortable environment. This means that you can use it when you are alone, even on a hot day, without having to worry about the electricity bill. It is extremely stylish and functional and has been manufactured to deliver a stable, long lasting performance using the latest in Samsung innovation.”   Furthermore, built into the Samsung AR9500 is the Virus Doctor and Easy Filter. These features remove dust, dangerous airborne contaminants and allergens, as well as some bacteria and viruses4.

“We continue to place a lot of emphasis on providing our customers with state-of-the-art offerings that can be adapted to meet their needs,” says McKechnie. “We also believe in adding value to our offerings. For example, consumers often do not realise that when they buy an air-conditioner, installation costs are not included. So Samsung is currently offering Gauteng customers free installation with the purchase of any room air conditioner between 18 May and 30 June. Promotions like these add value and give something back to consumers,” he concludes.
