Fibreglass Pool Advice

Submitted by: Pools for Africa

Overall, fibreglass pools are known for being incredibly resilient and relatively low maintenance. However, you’ll still want to clean and maintain your fibreglass pool from time to time to ensure that you and your family can enjoy it for years to come.

The most important thing to remember is that you should never drain your swimming pool.  Fibreglass pools are designed to always be holding water with the force of the soil on the one side being negated by the force of the water on the other.   If you drain your swimming pool you can risk severe structural problems such as cracking and other damage. In some cases, fibreglass pools have even risen from the ground and been completely destroyed by having the water drained from them.

Should you need to switch out the water in your swimming pool, simply drain a quarter of the pool’s water at a time and replace it with fresh water. You can continue this process until you are satisfied with the new water.

When cleaning the walls of a fibreglass swimming pool, you shouldn’t use any abrasive materials or cleaners. Generally, a degreaser and cleaning pad should suffice.   You can buff and wax certain areas of the fibreglass pool that have been exposed to sunlight to restore their shine and character.

As always, you may want to invest in a high-quality automatic pool cleaner as well or you could consider hiring a local pool cleaning company to regularly clean your swimming pool.   If you do decide to go with a pool cleaning company, you should take some time to compare different companies and determine which company is right for you. By agreeing a fixed term with a swimming pool maintenance company, you may even be able to secure some cost savings.
