Career-oriented Christians at work - Call42

Submitted by: Steven

As career-oriented professionals and business people, Christians are capable of addressing pressing societal challenges. Many Christians, across denominations and business sectors, are increasingly becoming aware of what God is doing among and through Christians at the workplace. However, many Christians struggle to live purposefully at work.

Call42 a South African marketplace initiative has conducted a national survey that explores the issues and obstacles that Christians experience in living a calling at work. The initiative was launched in 2011 by a group of Stellenbosch marketplace Christians who believe that God wants to use a transformed marketplace to extend His Kingdom. 1 300 Christians were canvassed in an online survey and included church leaders, working Christians, students, Kingdom Companies and those ministering full-time to individuals in the marketplace.

The survey sheds light on the following issues: the commitment and challenges that churches face in serving people at work and the challenges Christians face in living a calling at work. With this survey, Call42 attempts to truly understand and identify these issues and to successfully address them. Call42 also intends to initiate relevant discussion and emphasise the growing concerns regarding the sacred and secular divide.

To date Call42 has published a series of reports providing feedback on the Call42 survey. Published findings are open for public use and available on Call42's website (www.call42.co.za) where one can subscribe to receive future report notifications.
