Increase your job chances with a bookkeeping course

Submitted by: Emma

GetSmarter, the high-touch online education company, and the University of Cape Town are presenting the second presentation of the University of Cape Town Bookkeeping course. The nine-week, part-time course starts on 30 July 2012 and is presented entirely online through GetSmarter’s innovative and supported online education platform.

By their very nature, all businesses deal with money. Therefore, they all need bookkeepers: financial administrators who keep track of cash coming in and going out, keep a clear record of salaries, expenses, tax payments and manage other day-to-day money matters. Since bad financial management spells the downfall of over 60% of businesses in South Africa, having a good bookkeeper on hand can make the difference between financial failure and business success.

The UCT Bookkeeping course is intended both for prospective and current bookkeepers. Aspiring bookkeepers can learn a vital and very sought-after practical skill set, preparing them to enter the workplace. Current bookkeepers can refresh their knowledge, gain confidence, and learn all the details of why and how bookkeeping is done – and even discover some new tricks or requirements. Business owners, managers and entrepreneurs can also learn the fundamentals to keep an eye on their bookkeepers and better understand their own finances.

The UCT Bookkeeping course teaches students the principles of balancing accounts, entering data into ledgers and journals, understanding and registering for taxes and dealing with salaries, among other things. Every week, students learn practical skills that can be applied immediately in their jobs.

GetSmarter’s advanced and user-friendly learning model provides students with a personal and professional educational experience. Students work through the course material together and receive continuous academic and administrative assistance throughout the course. Each of the nine modules includes course notes, discussion forums where students interact with one another, an interactive quiz and video lectures to make the course material more engaging.
