The microcapsules contain a fire-suppressant chemical which is added to a paint, and automatically burst on reaching a certain temperature, thereby extinguishing an approaching fire at a very early stage. “The paint can be applied to any surface to make it fire suppressant,” says Margalit. “It's especially useful in this situation to protect armoured vehicles, petroleum tanks, delivery trucks and shop walls.”
