Philippa Allen’s Evoking Place
Submitted by: Pearlmar ChaukeFine artist Philippa Allen’s latest solo exhibition, Evoking Place, presented by House Union Block (HUB) at the Sisonke Gallery in Cape Town, encourages us to adopt a new perspective on our environment and reawaken our interest in nature. The series of charcoal and colour drawings evoke a childlike curiosity and convey the magical feelings Cape Town’s landscapes elicit.
With this series of scenes, Allen explores her place, and the place of society at large, in the environment, and expresses her own hypothesis that a new perspective on nature will activate the psychological change needed in humans to change the declining state of the planet.
