Radio and television personality Kia Johnson has been appointed by the HOPE Cape Town Trust as a HOPE ambassador. Johnson, who co-hosts the morning breakfast show Planet Haibo onRadio 2000 and produces and presents her own show called Saturday Night Live on 2000, joins Katlego Maboe from Expresso, as a HOPE Hero.

HOPE Cape Town is a NGO focusing on addressing the HIV and AIDS pandemic and related diseases by providing access to education, treatment and ongoing support.

HOPE Cape Town is co-located and associated with the Ithemba (Hope) Ward at Tygerberg Hospital in Cape Town and has a memorandum of understanding with the University of Stellenbosch. They cooperate with 'KID-CRU', the Tygerberg Hospital research unit for paediatric infectious diseases.

In her role as HOPE Hero, Johnson will assist with raising the profile of the organisation and raising funds towards their various programmes. “I’ve always been passionate about making a difference in people’s lives. My role as ambassador for HOPE Cape Town means I can make a difference in the community in which I live and grew-up and can support an organisation that has been changing the lives for so many for better since 1999. As a mother of two I feel strongly about securing a better future for all children. I am looking forward to my journey as HOPE Hero," says Johnson.

“We are very excited to have Kia on board and are confident that she can support our efforts to bring hope to those affected and infected by HIV/Aids and TB”, says HOPE Cape Town donor relations manager, Fahim Docrat. “Kia’s presence will raise awareness about the challenges we still face here in South Africa and the need to double our efforts to ensure the necessary medication, support and programmes reach those in need.”
