{pp}Online Shopping and cash back portal Fatwallet.co.za has announced an innovative scheme whereby shoppers are offered cash back for every person introduced to Fatwallet. The way the scheme works is that for each person that creates a new Fatwallet account via the introducers special link, Fatwallet will reward them both with R10. By the end of this year, online shopping spend on retail goods in South Africa is expected to have grown by more than 35%, after 33% growth in 2006. The total spent on online retail goods in SA in 2007 is expected to be R929 million, up from R688 million in 2006, according to "Online Retail in South Africa 2007" by World Wide Worx.
Fatwallet.co.za is aiming to capitalise on the increase in online shopping in South Africa and promises to make shoppers money go even further by rewarding them with up to 20% cashback on purchases, whenever they shop for goods and services.
The site has links to stores selling insurance, cars, DVD’s, books, music, computers, electronics, flowers, gifts and includes many of South Africa’s leading online merchants including Truworths, Netflorist, Musica and Digital Planet. The site has grown to more than 40 stores and is continually expanding.
The way cashback sites work is by paying shoppers cashback on online shopping purchases made through its linked retailers once they have become a member. “I was tired of seeing overstretched South African consumers paying too much for goods and services and devised this model in order to allow shoppers to earn cash while shopping.” says company founder Shamiel Galant. “Membership is free and anyone can sign up and start earning cash back immediately.”
Galant also points out that the benefits are actually twofold; merchants will see an increase in sales due to the quality of incentivised traffic being passed to their site, while the consumer benefits by making big savings by purchasing from merchants who participate in this model.
