Submitted by: MyPressportal Team
The official Durban 2010 website was launched today by Julie-May Ellingson, head of Durban’s Strategic Projects Unit.
Commenting on this user-friendly, interactive website, Ellingson said: “Durban’s cultural diversity has created a rich cosmopolitan society of world-class African uniqueness, which is echoed in its personality. The new Durban 2010 website gives us a platform to showcase the city and its 2010 developments to the rest of the world!”

In its initial phase, the website serves as an information portal to local residents wanting to know about the city’s preparations for the FIFA World Cup™, as well as potential visitors who want to know more about the city. “The website is a source of up-to-date information with factual, easy-to-read content on subjects such as stadium construction, infrastructure development and transportation,” said Ellingson

Designed by a local IT firm, Adapt IT, the website has been designed to depict Durban’s personality and warmth, and was developed using world class technology. This fun, funky, user-friendly technology makes the site interactive and easy to navigate. Content will be updated on a regular basis which will maintain freshness and give all visitors a good reason to keep coming back.

The website will launch in English and Zulu. At a later stage it will also be made available in the three official FIFA languages – Spanish, German and French.

This website boasts some really different, cutting-edge features like the stadium’s live webcam, with images of the stadium construction being updated every 15 minutes, fun interactive postcards, novel image galleries and more.
“What makes the site functional is its interactivity options - the site involves the user and incorporates a fun, adventurous approach”, says Richard McLennan, Adapt IT, web developer. “It’s as easy as the click of a button”.

Besides the Durban related information, eager fans will also be able to get updates on FIFA related football stories. The site will also provide useful information about the city and its various attractions.

“It is important that the website provides a productive, memorable and frustration free experience for our visitors. We wanted to create a website that would be a source of useful information for tourists who want to visit the city, as well as showcase Durban as being a technically savvy city. When it comes to Durban 2010, we want www.fifaworldcup.durban.gov.za to be the ‘one stop shop’ for all information”, concluded Ellingson.
