To satisfy this demand TVR Computers have launched the ARS-3031 Raid Drive array specifically designed for Digital Video Recorders. “The CCTV Industry and the ICT Industry is merging and the future for both will be to embrace each other.
Solutions for the CCTV Industry will come from what we have done and will do in IT and sooner rather than later, the installation of CCTV systems will be done by the same companies that today install networks” says Norman Baartman, CEO TVR Computers. “Currently, the ARS-3031 is being tested on some very interesting applications and should the parties that are testing the units come to the same conclusion as we have, CCTV mass storage will never be the same again. Historically speaking, a device such as this would be too expensive for any but the biggest corporate entity or Governmental agency.
We are aiming to make it affordable for any commercial client that has a need for mass storage of their CCTV footage” say Deon van Rensburg, Divisional Manager: Surveillance at TVR Computers. “With further advancements in System Integration, Facial Recognition and Intelligent Video Surveillance and the ever present threat of crime, CCTV users must consider this a viable solution especially with 2010 looming on the horizon. The international visitor is used to being monitored by CCTV wherever he or she goes, and they will expect the same here (especially) considering our country’s reputation with regards to crime.”
The ARS-3031 is a SCSI based array that converts the output from the DVR to SCSI and back again into a SATAII format. Because the ARS-3031 is SCSI controlled the CCTV Professional can daisy chain 15 units together to give a total of up to 45 Terabytes of data storage per array. The SCSI AEC-67162 controller has two ports allowing the CCTV Professional to daisy chain two arrays of 45 Terabytes each from one DVR creating a mass storage device far beyond what is currently available. IP Cameras, that uses TCP/IP protocols and uses LAN and WAN networks as transmission medium, are also now coming into its own. IP based systems utilises either a hardware based Network Video Recorder or a Virtual Network Video Recorder (where a designated server is the Recording device) but still has the same problem – how and where to store the huge amount of data it gathers. The ARS-3031 does not discriminate between a Digital Video Recorder and a Network Video Recorder (as used in IP based applications) and will store the footage as data in RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 3, RAID 5, JBOD and Normal from either type of Digital Recorder. The ARS-3031 features four hot-swappable SATAII drive trays and every tray can accommodate a 1 Terabyte SATAII Hard Disk Drive. The whole drive is encased in a 1U, 19” rack mount assembly and programming of the unit takes place via a bundled software package that is installed on either the PC Based, Server Based or Embedded DVR system.
