Boss review website attracts top talent

Great bosses can showcase their management and leadership skills to attract top talent, and boost their careers, through a newly launched ‘boss review’ website.
“People join companies, but they leave bosses. We believe people should join companies because of great bosses,” says Gavin Symanowitz, founder of newly launched www.GetAGreatBoss.com.

Symanowitz explains that he has been lucky to work for a top boss himself: “My previous boss had a great reputation within the organisation. Everyone in the business wanted to work for him. And yet when he posted an external job ad, his reputation counted for nothing. No-one knew about him. His job ad looked like every other job ad.”

Inspired by this, Symanowitz set about creating a review website that would highlight job advertisements for jobs associated with great bosses. Potential job candidates could then read reviews to find out what it would be like to work for prospective bosses. The reviews are completed by current employees, who are best able to provide an objective assessment.

“High-quality career-seekers are far more negotiable on salary if they know they will be working for a high-quality boss,” explains Symanowitz. “By showcasing their management skills, great bosses are therefore able to keep their staff costs down.”

The website rating system complements professional online profiles, offering a much-needed employee review element. “GetAGreatBoss.com doesn’t compete with other online job portals,” Symanowitz qualifies. “Rather, it integrates seamlessly with all online job portals and corporate job boards.”

The information age has brought transparency into the workplace, something which may be regarded with fear amongst companies. However, the website demonstrates how responsible transparency can actually add tremendous value to both employees and employers.

The website protects the confidentiality of employee reviewers by ensuring all responses are anonymous. Bosses can follow up on any anonymous comment by means of a private online chat conversation with the relevant employee, offering ways to learn about and improve their management style. “It is very powerful, and opens the lines of communication between bosses and their staff in a completely new way,” says Symanowitz.

If the boss likes the results of the review, then he or she can choose to link it to a job ad for potential employees to read. The review results can also be linked to the boss’s C.V so that head-hunters and executive recruiters can appreciate his or her management style.

If the boss doesn’t like the results of the review, he or she can choose not to share the results with anyone. “We’re not here to penalize bad bosses but rather to celebrate great ones,” Symanowitz explains.
